College Scoops Top Award At Corporate Quiz
Wiltshire College staff are celebrating the win of the coveted title of Brain of Wessex 2017.
Julian House hosted the popular corporate quiz, which took place in the revamped Lansdown Hall at the Trowbridge Civic Centre on Thursday 23rd May and raised £1,300 on the night.
Organiser, Stephen Chesworth from Julian House, was delighted that event has been resurrected for 2017 after an absence of eight years: "The venue is terrific but I'm sure the main reason that companies support it is the fact that it is a cracking night out. Great for team building and a fun way to support the work of Julian House. There's a bit of a quiz animal in most of us which explains why programmes such as Pointless & University Challenge are so popular. And we enjoy the torture of nearly knowing a geography question from our school days or a spicy aroma in our unique smells' round."
After a lively contest of 10 rounds featuring questions on general knowledge, literature, geography, history, film and TV, science, sport, abbreviations and music, it was Wiltshire College who came away with the coveted title of Brian of Wessex 2017 and the unique ‘Brain' sculpture trophy and a Magnum of Champagne.
In the quizmaster's hot seat was explorer, adventurer and entrepreneur, newly knighted Sir David Hempleman-Adam, who delivered the questions and helped to keep the tight timetable on track.
During a light hearted interview at half time he shared with the audience some of the highlights of his impressive career as and adventurer and explorer and funny moments when ballooning across the USA.
One of the winning team, Chris Chilcott, Deputy Head for English and Maths at Wiltshire College said: "It feels great to be champions and I really enjoyed representing the college and the great team effort which colleagues I may not normally get the chance to work with gave. It's not every day that you get to be in the presence of an explorer like David Hempleman-Adams and to raise the profile of an organisation such as Julian House which does such valuable work in the community."
Julian House would like to thank all the other teams that took part including Monahans, Wansbroughs, Cumberwell Park, and Forrester Sylvester & Mackett, and especially Pearson May, who also sponsored the Brain of Wessex 2017.
